Kirtland Federal Credit Union in New Mexico maintains a very strong member base from Kirtland Air Force Base located only a few blocks away. Kirtland FCU enjoyed twelve steady years of growth in its existing facility, but over time had to move several departments to offsite locations due to the lack of operating space.

KDA conducted a strategic facilities study looking at the main office and its branches to evaluate Kirtland’s services and sales culture. In the main office, KDA recognized that services were located in two wings of the building separated by a main lobby. Retail merchandising and cross-sell opportunities were limited, making the expansive lobby an inefficient space.

KDA considered options for Kirtland and recommended the most cost-efficient solution: remodel and expand the existing facility. KDA’s strategic facilities planning study demonstrated how Kirtland FCU could dramatically update service, convenience and retail opportunities more cost efficiently than building a new main office. By expanding, departments that were off site could be brought back and all housed under one roof.
